Cardiff City endured a difficult start to their 2023-24 Championship campaign, recording one wins, three defeats and a draw from their opening five league-games. However, Erol Bulut’s side have managed to turn their fortunes, winning their last three outings in the second tier, against the likes of Swansea City, Coventry City and Sunderland, scoring six goals and conceding just three in the process. The Bluebirds edged past Sunderland in their last league-match on September 24, thanks to Mark McGuinness’s lone goal three minutes from time. However, three days later, Cardiff lost out to Blackburn in the EFL Cup despite the fact that Callum Robinson and Kion Etete got on the scoresheet. Now with their focus fully on the Championship, Cardiff will aim to make it four on the bounce on Saturday as look to break into the top six.
Rotherham United, on the other hand, are bidding to secure only their second league win of the season, having endured a tough start to the new season under Matthew Taylor. The Millers’ lone success this term came against Norwich (2-1) at the start of this month courtesy of first half efforts from Dexeter Lembikisa and Jordan Hugill. But Taylor’s men couldn’t build on that success, losing back-to-back games against Huddersfield and Millwall, conceding five goals and scoring none in the process. Meanwhile, the Millers took a commendable point against third-placed Preston last Saturday thanks to Jordan Hugill’s 35th-minute opener. Moreover Rotherham can take confidence from the fact that they were only the second side to hold the Lilywhites so far this term.
