Leeds United will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to seven games in the EFL Championship when they travel to St. Mary’s Stadium to take on Southampton on Saturday. The visitors are heading into the match on the back of a comprehensive 3-0 win over Watford last weekend, while the Saints were beaten 2-1 by Middlesbrough last time out. The Whites are currently occupying sixth spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 13 points from eight games, while the hosts are sitting at the 15th position, with ten points to their name.

Southampton’s bid to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking began pretty well, recording three wins and a draw from their opening four second tier games, but then, the Saints’ form took a sharp dip, losing their last four outings. Russell Martin’s side lost out to Middlesbrough last Saturday despite taking the lead through Adam Armstrong’s 17th-minute opener. Boro fought back and equalised through Riley McGree on the stroke of half-time, before Jonny Howson’s 66th-minute penalty kick handed a fourth straight defeat to the Saints, who have now conceded 12 goals and scored just two in the process. With pressure bound to be growing around the Hampshire outfit and Martin in particular, Southampton will be desperate to bounce back to winning ways at St Mary’s Stadium, where they had secured their last victory against Queens Park Rangers at the start of this month.
Leeds, on the other hand, have had a decent Championship season thus far, losing just one of their eight second-tier games, while winning three outings in the process. Since the narrow 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City on August 12, the Whites have recorded three wins and as many draws from their last six league-games, scoring 11 goals and conceding just four in the period. The Peacocks put three goals past Watford without reply last time out thanks to second-half efforts from Joel Piroe, Sam Byram and Jaidon Anthony. The result extended Daniel Farke’s side’s unbeaten run to six games in the Championship, while it was also their fourth successive clean sheet in the competition.
