Manchester United will be eager to make it two successive victories against Crystal Palace when they face them in the Premier League on Saturday. The Red Devils had already defeated them in the Carabao Cup third round on Tuesday 3-0. It was undoubtedly the most dominant display of the season for United. However, both teams had changed their starting lineups considerably for that fixture.

Hence, on Saturday, Manchester United can expect a completely different Crystal Palace side in the Premier League. However, leading up to the game, the main talking point has been about the return of winger Antony. Due to off-field issues, the Brazilian has been out of action for a while. The club has now released a statement about the same. “Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has co-operated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so,” the statement read.

“As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case. As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”

When will Antony return to training?

However, the statement does not provide any details about his return date for training. Therefore, manager Erik ten Hag was asked to mention the date on when he will return. “On Saturday, he will be back in the training. So tomorrow,” ten Hag, quoted by the club’s website, said ahead of the match. When asked whether he is comfortable with his fitness levels, the manager replied, “I have to see, but I think [so], yeah.”

On Tuesday night, Manchester United fielded a good number of younger players for the cup game. With the team currently dealing with many injuries, ten Hag was asked how important the youngsters are going to be during this period. “You have seen it already, when you have players, when you develop players, you see the progress and that can help you in tough situations. But also, it is good for the club to develop such players, and for the players as well to get into professional football, to get into top professional football. So, it’s great, I like it to develop young players. But as you said, the mentality must be right, you have to deserve the badge and, every time, you have to prove it. On every occasion, so [at] training, but especially in games,” he explained.
