Milan put four goals past Napoli without reply at Diego Maradona stadium thanks to Rafael Leao’s brace and strikes from Brahim Diaz and Alexis Saelemaekers. The result ended the Rossoneri’s four-game winless streak across all competitions, and it was their 15th top flight victory of the season. Hopes of retaining the Serie A title were quashed some time ago, with 20 points currently separating them from Napoli at the summit, and securing a top-four finish at the end of the season is now a sole focus for Stefano Pioli’s side. Milan have won nine of their 13 home-games in the league this term. Meanwhile, Pioli’s side secured a 3-1 victory over Empoli in the reverse fixture in October last year courtesy of second-half efforts from Ante Rebic, Leao and Fode Ballo-Toure.
Empoli, on the other hand, ended a miserable four-game losing streak when they secured a narrow 1-0 home-win over Lecce on Monday night. Francesco Caputo’s penalty-kick on the hour-mark separated the two sides at Stadio Carlo Castellani and helped the Blues secure their seventh top flight victory of the season. Meanwhile, Empoli have won just two of their 14 league-games on the road this season, and one of those wins came against Inter Milan at San Siro in January.
