Milan have played three friendlies this summer, starting with a 7-0 victory over Italian lower division side Lumezzane on July 20, before flying to USA and recording a defeat and a draw against Real Madrid and Juventus respectively. Rossoneri shared the spoils against Juve despite taking the lead twice through Danilo and Olivier Giroud. Stefano Pioli’s side have made seven signings this summer, with Samuel Chukwueze, Christian Pulisic, Tijjani Reijnders, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Noah Okafor, Luka Romero and Marco Sportiello all arriving at San Siro, while Sandro Tonali has been a major departure. The 2021-22 Serie A champions finished down in the fourth position last season, but reached the semi-finals of the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League.
Barcelona, on the other hand, started their preparations for the La Liga title defence with a 5-3 defeat to Arsenal before thrashing Real Madrid 3-0 on Saturday night. Blaugrana put three goals past Los Blancos without reply thanks to Ousmane Dembele’s opener, Ferming Lopez’s powerful long-ranger and a late effort from Ferran Torres. Xavi’s side will round off their preparations with a Joan Gamper Trophy final against Spurs on August 8. The Catalan club have made three signings this summer, bringing in the likes of Oriol Romeu, Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez, and they are still working on more additions before the end of the window.
