Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte thinks Harry Kane “is a big example for his team mates” after his sides 5-1 win over Newcastle United on Sunday. Although the English striker couldn’t get on the score-sheet, he produced a brilliant performance to help his side secure all three points and move into the top four of the Premier League standings. Fabian Schar’s superb free-kick put the visitors ahead, but goals from Ben Davies, Matt Doherty, Son Heung-min, Emerson Royal and Steven Bergwijn secured a dominant victory for Spurs.

It’s the first time Spurs got into the Champions League spot since September. Kane went into the match having won the Premier League Player of the Month for March and produced yet another impressive performance to help his team secure their third consecutive league win.

“When you see him work this way, for sure you have to show the desire to continue to work very hard. For this reason I want to tell him thanks because he’s a big example for everything. And I hope to give him satisfaction.” Conte said of Kane

The 28-year-old striker has been in superb form off late, having netted five times and registered three assists in his last six league appearances.

“Now he is enjoying to play this type of football and we have to try to continue together because I’m seeing many players with great improvement. Every player is improving and for this reason Tottenham is going up and up.”

Kane can score and create goals: Conte

Kane was involved in two of the five goals Spurs scored on the night. Doherty netted home from Kane’s cross to give the lead to Spurs. A few minutes later, Kane’s perfectly weighted pass released Kulusevski down the right flank and the Swedish winger provided the assist for Son to slam home and make the score 3-1 for Spurs.

Conte added: “His performance was amazing. I said to him it was a shame he didn’t score but he played in a fantastic way. To have a player like him in your team makes you strong. To know we have him in our side is very important because he can score and create chances.

“First of all I like the person. Some players with talent don’t want to work hard. I have found a player who is a great man. He set the example from the very first day. This isn’t normal because usually when you are top player you can work less, sometimes you are a bit lazy. He is a big example for his teammates. I have seen his desire to be competitive in every competition.”
