Arsenal will be aiming to keep themselves in charge of the race for a top-four finish when they travel to Newcastle united for their Premier League game on Monday night. The Magpies most recently went down 5-0 to leaders Manchester City while the gunners lost 3-0 to Tottenham Hotspur last time out. After picking up four wins in a row to get themselves into the mid-table, the Magpies suffered two back-to-back loses against the table-toppers Liverpool and Man City. However, with the threat of relegation from the first tier now staved off, Newcastle are enjoying a slow cruise to the finish line.

The humiliating defeat against reigning champions Man City left Eddie Howe’s side down in the 14th rankings but safe in the knowledge that they will be a Premier League side next season. Newcastle Will  welcome Arsenal for the final home game of their season, having won six of their seven at St. James’ Park, only losing to Liverpool in that time. In fact, only Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Chelsea have prevailed against Newcastle United in the Premier League this season. 

Meanwhile Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta won the manager of the month award for March for his side’s impressive performances, but the Gunners’ form has been hot and cold in April. Arsenal suffered some unexpected losses and at the same time registered some thrilling victories against big guns. It started with a 3-0 loss against Crystal Palace before being defeated 2-1 against Brighton and then Southampton registered a 1-0 win. And then, Arteta managed to regroup his side and beat third-placed Chelsea 4-2 before thrashing Manchester United 3-1 and went on to beat West Ham 2-1 and moved to the fourth spot. But 3-0 loss to Spurs in the North London Derby made things tighter and Antonio Conte’s side managed to leapfrog Arsenal into fourth spot with a 1-0 win against Burnley on Sunday. 

Probable Lineups

Keiran Trippier and Callum Wilson were back on the bench against Man city, while Ryan Fraser is back in training and could make the squad this week. Jonjo Shelvey, Federico Fernandez, Jamal Lewis remain on the sidelines.

As for Arsenal, left-back Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey, as well as the suspended Rob Holding won’t be available for the trip to Newcastle. Meanwhile Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben While could form the centre-back pairing because of the injury to Gabriel and absence of Holding.

Newcastle United possible starting lineup: Dubravka, Trippier, Lascelles, Burn, Target, Longstaff, Guimaraes, Joelinton, Almiron, Wilson, Saint-Maximin.

Arsenal possible starting lineup: Ramsdale, Cedric, Tomiyasu, White, Tavares, Xhaka, Elneny, Saka, Odegaard, Smith Rowe, Nketiah.
