Aston Villa would be hoping to dent another blow to Liverpool’s title hopes when the two sides meet at Villa Park on Tuesday. The Reds suffered a huge blow in their Premier League title race when they were held to a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Meanwhile Villa defeated Burnley 3-1 last time around. Manchester City capitalised on Liverpool’s slip up as they thrashed Newcastle United 5-0 to move three points clear at the summit of the standings. The Reds are chasing a quadruple this season and the fatigue of playing in four tournaments seems to have caught up with Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Aston Villa are in good form having won two successive games to boast hopes of finishing in the top half of the table. After a disastrous run of form that saw Steven Gerrard’s side losing four consecutive games, the English tactician has managed to steady the ship by winning two of the last three games. In the last game at Turf Moor, Danny Ings put the visitors ahead before Emi Buendia doubled the lead on the half-hour mark and Ollie Watkins netted Villa’s third of the night in the second half. Burnley scored a late consolation goal through Maxwell Cornet.

On the other hand, Klopp’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Spurs. It was an entertaining game of football at Anfield as two teams with contrasting game plan going up against each other. Liverpool had the majority of ball possession while Spurs threatened from quick counter-attacks. After a goalless first half that saw both sides hitting the woodwork, Son Heung-Min broke the deadlock. The South Korean got on the end of a well worked breakaway move to tap in from Sessegnon’s assist. Luis Diaz equalised for the Reds to share the spoils.

A six game winning streak in all competitions and a 12-game winning streak at Anfield in the Premier League came to an end for Liverpool at the weekend, but their unbeaten run domestically now stands at 16 matches, and they have kept clean sheets in four of their last five away games in the top flight.

Probable Lineups

Villa boss Steven Gerrard has no fresh injury issues to report from the weekend, but midfielder Jacb Ramsey who is sidelined with a groin injury is doubtful for the clash. Kortney Hause’s abdominal problem is likely to keep him out, while it remains to be seen whether Leon Bailey will recover from an ankle injury.

As for Liverpool, Klopps has no injury concerns, but he is likely to rotate his side keeping in mind the FA Cup final on Saturday. Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas could be deployed in the full-back areas. Naby Keita could also join in the middle of the park .

Aston Villa possible starting lineup: Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne, McGinn, Chambers, Luiz, Buendia, Ings, Watkins.

Liverpool possible starting lineup: Alisson, Gomez, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas, Keita, Fabinho, Thiago, Salah, Jota, Diaz.
