Spurs started the match on the driving seat as Harry Kane’s effort from Dejan Kulusevski’s assist went off target before Eric Dier curled wide from a free-kick. At the other end, Christian Romero made a superb block to deny Willock.

Six minutes from break, Newcastle gets a free-kick just outside the area for Son’s foul on Willock. Schar stepped up and curled the free-kick towards the bottom corner to give the lead to Newcastle. Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris was slow to react.

Antonio Conte’s side responded quickly and leveled the score within four minutes of the goal. Newcastle didn’t properly clear Son’s corner from the left flank and Dier gave the ball back to the South Korean, whose in-swinging cross was headed home by Davies.

Emerson scores his first goal for Spurs

Spurs took the lead three minutes into the second half through a Doherty header. Kane curled a beautiful ball into the middle, Son missed the attempt but Doherty headed home past Dubravka. Immediately after kick-off, Newcastle nearly equalised when Wood’s effort went just wide after Dier’s mistake.

But Spurs extended their lead on 54 minutes when Son slammed home from Kane’s perfect low cross. Almost ten minutes later, the hosts tripled their lead when Emerson scored his first for the club. Doherty played a one-two with Kulusevski before chipping it into the six-yard box. Emerson got away from Targett before volleying home past Dubravka.

Twenty minutes later, substitute Bergwijn raced through the centre of a Newcastle defence to complete the drubbing. It’s the first time Spurs got into the Champions League spot since September.
