Haseena Prannoy Sunil Kumar is an Indian badminton player who was born on July 17, 1992. He is a native of Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram. Prannoy competes in the singles and doubles divisions for India on the international stage. Prannoy’s top-tier badminton career kickstarted under the aegis of Pullela Gopichand. HS Prannoy is considered the star boy of badminton and has many achievements throughout his career. These include the Thomas Cup win, the 2018 Commonwealth Games performances, the South Asian Games etc to name a few. Some of the most notable achievements of HS Prannoy’s sporting career have been listed down.

1) Malaysia Masters

The most significant win and the most recent one under Prannoy’s kitty is the recent win that he got under Malaysian Masters. The final was against China’s singles player Weng Hongyang. The match was a closely fought one. It went down to three sets after which Prannoy emerged victorious. Prannoy fought well and took the first set 21-19. However, Weng made a comeback and took home the second set 21-13. However, the Indian came out on top to take the third set back and win the tournament eventually.

2) Thomas Cup Win

Prannoy was part of the India squad for the 2022 Thomas Cup. In the quarter-final against Malaysia, he won the decider match against Leong Jun Hao to assure India a semi-final spot and its first-ever medal in the Thomas Cup. He repeated this performance in the semi-final against Denmark, beating Rasmus Gemke in the deciding match to take India to the final. In the final, although he did not get a chance to play. However, India eventually won the tournament and took home the Thomas Cup.

3) Commonwealth Games

He was part of the historic team that won the Mixed team event in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. India has never won a team event other than some minor successes in the singles category. However, they set this thing right by winning the mixed team gold by defeating Malaysia in a 3-1 set.

4) South Asian Games

Prannoy participated in the South Asian Games that was held in Shillong. The South Asian Games is a quadrennial game in which India participates. India hosted the 2016 South Asia Games. In this, Prannoy went on to compete till the finals. In the finals, he was pitted against his fellow compatriot Kidambi Srikanth. He lost the finals, however, he took home the silver medal.

5) Youth Olympic Games

Prannoy had a great start to his international career when he reached the finals of the Youth Olympics. The Youth Olympics is a global event which showcases prodigal talents across the globe. In such a mega event, Prannoy was able to reach the finals of the tournament. However, he was defeated in the finals against his Thai opponent Pisit Poodchalat. Nevertheless, this performance showed the coaches the immense potential that this youngster possessed. 

6) Asian Championships

Prannoy participated in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where he finished in fourth place after being beaten by Rajiv Ouseph of England in the bronze medal match. The Indian shuttler put aside that defeat and geared up for the Asian Championship that was held in the same year. He won a bronze medal at the competition. He defeated second seed Son Wan-ho in the quarterfinals. However, he did not stand a chance in the semifinal against the third seed Chen Long.
