The Indian men’s badminton team will begin its title defence against Thailand at the 2024 Thomas Cup. On the other hand, the women’s team kickstarts its campaign against Canada on the opening day of the Uber Cup Finals 2024. However, there are notable absentees as well from the women’s team which would have strengthened the team more.

Notably absent from the Indian women’s team are two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, the top-ranked doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto, and Commonwealth Games bronze medalists Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly. Instead, India will field a youthful contingent featuring 17-year-old national champion Anmol Kharb, Ashmita Chaliha, and Tanvi Sharma, among others.

How will India lineup in this year’s Thomas and Uber Cup 2024?

The Indian contingent, led by world no. 1 doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. To strengthen the Indian squad, singles stars like HS PrannoyLakshya Sen, and Kidambi Srikanth have also been drafted in this high-octane clash. All three shuttlers have been drafted in Group C. They will open their campaign against Thailand on April 27, followed by clashes with England on April 29 and the mighty Indonesia on May 1.

Meanwhile, the women’s team is placed in Uber Cup Group A and will take on Canada on 27 April, Singapore on the following day and China, the most successful team in the event’s history with 15 titles, on 30 April.

The women’s team qualified for the Uber Cup 2024 after winning a historic gold medal in the Badminton Asia Team Championships earlier this year. Fuelled by their historic title at the Badminton Asia Team Championships, the Indian women’s team, led by the young sensation Anmol Kharb, is poised to make its mark on the international stage.

After the conclusion of the group stage, the top two teams from every group will qualify for the quarterfinals, which will be held over two days, on 2 and 3 May. The finals will be held on 5 May.

When is the Thomas and Uber Cup 2024?

The Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2024 is scheduled to commence on the 27th of April and end on May 5th. This year’s tournament will be held in Chengdu, China.
