This international tournament was held at the Axiata Arena inside the KL Sports City in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Major Misses of the Tournament

Malaysia Masters 500 has been scheduled days after a gruelling schedule of the Sudirman Cup. This has made it difficult for many athletes to keep up with the gruesome energy that is required to continuously go and give their best at the highest level. One of the major misses of the tournament will be the absence of Seed No. 1 Viktor Axelsen. The Danish international has withdrawn from the tournament owing to his injury issues. India will also be bereft of the services of the top-seeded doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. There seem to be no injury issues but perhaps the pair want to take some time off and freshen up for the Olympics qualification cycle. In the mixed doubles, the top-seeded pair from Japan and the current World no.2 Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino have withdrawn from the tournament.
