He broke Eamonn Coghlan’s European mile record from 1983 and overtook two UK bests previously held by Peter Elliott since 1990.
On August 23, 2023, Kerr surpassed the crowd favorite Norwegian athlete, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, in the 1500-meter final at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest, Hungary. This marked the second time that an Edinburgh Athletic Club runner upset Ingebrigtsen in the event at the World Athletics Championships, following Jake Wightman‘s win in 2022.
