Top 3 superstars who can win the new World Heavyweight Championship

During Monday's WWE Raw, Triple H introduced a new championship to the world, but the name of the belt suggests it will carry on the lineage of a previous title.

Overall, Roman Reigns’ three-year reign has been beneficial to WWE, with the company’s creative direction and long-term storytelling improving significantly as a result of the multifaceted intrigue surrounding The Bloodline.

The Tribal Chief’s control of two belts — the WWE championship and the Universal Championship, which he won by defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 — has come at a cost. As WWE’s undisputed top star, Reigns only works so many dates these days, and he rarely appears on Monday nights on “RAW” as someone from the Friday night “SmackDown” brand.

As a result, WWE, led by chief creative officer Paul Levesque (aka Triple H), established a strategy and announced the new global heavyweight title earlier this week, which will be given on May 27 at the Night of Champions premium live event in Saudi Arabia. Following the 2023 WWE Draught, which is scheduled for this Friday and next Monday, the title will go to whichever brand Reigns is not a part of. And, according to Triple H, the goal is to have a champion who is willing to defend the belt on a regular basis.

So, here are the top 3 superstars who can become the new World Heavyweight Champion

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes was a difficult pick to include on our list since the way WWE has been crafting his story has always implied that he will be the one to dethrone Reigns and win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

However, many of us predicted that would happen at WrestleMania 39 and were proven wrong, so there is always the possibility that the creative team does not want the story to play out that way. If The American Nightmare isn’t the guy to defeat The Tribal Chief, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him become the first WWE global heavyweight champion under this new format.

GUNTHER

Gunther is in the midst of an epic reign as intercontinental champion, and if he can keep it for another four or five months, he would surpass The Honky Tonk Man as the company’s longest-reigning IC champion.

WWE obviously views The Ring General as someone who can lead significant bouts and feuds, so having him win the new world championship while still holding the IC belt would be a wonderful opportunity to give him a massive push toward the main event level.

The amount of persons who have held both a world and a mid-card championship at the same time is small, therefore bestowing that honor on Gunther would allow him to stand out as one of the company’s most formidable Superstars.

Seth Rollins

This one is self-evident. Rollins not only has the title credentials to quickly elevate the new belt. He’s also a fantastic worker who is now quite popular with the WWE Universe. It’s difficult to fathom anybody protesting if he’s the one who holds the championship in Saudi Arabia, especially because he’s been a thorn in Reigns’ side for years.
