This past weekend, WWE put on a jam-packed SummerSlam extravaganza. The consequences also included an unexpected heel change in RAW’s big event the following week. In the main event of RAW this week, Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins were going to be joined by Sami Zayn as a tag team partner. They were scheduled to face The Judgement Day, but things didn’t go as planned. This week on RAW, JD McDonagh took out Sami Zayn backstage, effectively beginning an angle that Vince McMahon had put on hold. This allowed for another surprising angle during the main event. Shinsuke Nakamura was then chosen to replace Sami Zayn in the contest.

The babyfaces

In the main event, the babyfaces defeated the Judgement Day, but the action was far from finished. The King of Strong Style turned on Cody Rhodes when he, Seth Rollins, and Shinsuke Nakamura were celebrating. Shinsuke Nakamura kicked out Seth Rollins, leaving Cody Rhodes perplexed. Then Shinsuke Nakamura exited the ring, appearing quite dangerous. Shinsuke Nakamura appears to be turning heel once more. Only time will tell how things turn out this time.

Highlights

Shinsuke Nakamura joined Rollins and Rhodes’ team backstage, although WWE seems to hint that he would later flip on Rollins. Raquel Gonzalez attacked Rhea Ripley before the bout began as the two women fought before the break. Mike Cole pointed out The WWE documentary on Peacock that has received the most viewers so far this year is Becoming Cody Rhodes. Although this was a strong main event, all the tag team main events on Raw have begun to resemble one another.

Sami Zayn stepped in to help the babyfaces, elbow tape and all, which gave Cody Rhodes the opportunity to defeat Finn Balor by using the MITB briefcase. Following the bout, Rhodes and Rollins continued to argue before reluctantly shaking hands. To confirm his heel switch, Shinsuke Nakamura predictably took out Rollins with a Kinshasa.
