Banks will be forced to sit out the Royal Rumble pay per view, an event she has missed every year since 2018.

This year, WWE has announced several unique entrants for the WWE Royal Rumble. WWE is ensuring that fans have fewer shocks than ever before for one of their biggest events of the year, only weeks away from their next major PPV event. The Royal Rumble will feature names like Impact Knockouts Champion Mickie James, Nikkie Bella, Lita, Summer Rae, and more. However, one of WWE’s most popular modern performers, Sasha Banks, will be absent due to an injury.

“Sasha Banks suffered a foot injury Sunday evening at a WWE Live! event in Fayetteville, NC. After seeking emergency medical attention, it was determined nothing was broken. Sasha underwent an MRI and it was discovered she has a bruised calcaneus bone. She is at home recovering and undergoing physical therapy. She is expected to be out of action for 6-8 weeks,” as per an update on WWE.com

This will keep her out of the Royal Rumble until after the event. She has not competed in the event since 2018.

Blow for Smack Down

This is a huge blow to Smackdown Live’s WWE Women’s division, which was already sparse before Toni Storm walked out. With Sasha Banks gone, there are fewer contenders for Charlotte Flair’s Smackdown Women’s Championship than ever before. Some NXT call-ups would normally be the answer, but their women’s division is similarly sparse – and stars like Raquel Gonzalez aren’t performing at the level they should be after lengthy developmental periods.

WWE shot themselves in the foot with their flurry of 2021 releases, and the consequences are finally being felt in 2022. When a key player is injured or otherwise unavailable, things quickly spiral out of control. To make up for a dearth of talent, WWE has Naomi feuding with both Charlotte Flair and Sonya Deville on Friday nights.
