Trinity Fatu aka Naomi flatly denies being too expensive for stardom

Trinity Fatu (aka Naomi in WWE) is not in NJPW/Stardom yet owing to pressure to keep spending down inside Bushiroad's wrestling business, according to Dave Meltzer in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, but Naomi sees things differently.

Trinity Fatu aka Naomi is now out of the spotlight and out of the ring, but not for the reasons Dave Meltzer previously stated. Meltzer said in Friday’s “Wrestling Observer Newsletter” that Fatu, formerly known as Naomi in WWE, had too high an asking price to operate under the Bushiiroad banner, which owns NJPW and STARDOM. Meltzer said that Bushiiroad has had to do some “tightening of the belt” as it continues to experience the financial impacts of the worldwide pandemic and that as a result, STARDOM has decided not to pursue Fatu.

Fatu, on the other hand, was quite direct in her Instagram story response, taking a screen photo of Meltzer’s article and writing “NOT TRUE” over it in huge strong letters ((H/T to WrestlingNews.co for saving the image). Fatu and current IWGP Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone notably walked out of “WWE Raw” about a year ago because they were both creatively unsatisfied with how they were positioned in the organization.

Following her debut, speculation emerged that Fatu would be joining Mone in the Bushiiroad mix, especially because the former Naomi was in attendance at the Tokyo Dome for the Wrestle Kingdom. Outside of being spotted ringside for ROH Supercard of Honour, she has yet to appear on any pro wrestling program after WWE. Fatu made headlines lately when she withdrew her trademark application for the moniker “Trinity Starr,” which many anticipated would be her new ring name outside of WWE.

What did Dave Meltzer have to say about Naomi’s NJPW debut?

Bushiroad, the parent company of NJPW and STARDOM, is interested in bringing in Trinity Fatu (previously known as Naomi in WWE), but only at the proper price. Naomi is married to WWE wrestler Jonathan Fatu (aka Jimmy Uso) and has starred on the reality TV shows Total Divas and Total Bellas. She is very active on social media, where she frequently informs her supporters about her life and business.

Mercedes Mone (previously known as Sasha Banks), Fatu’s close friend, joined the organization after being released from WWE. Following a creative disagreement with Vince McMahon last year, the two ladies left WWE together. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, at a time when Mone is negotiating a contract extension with Bushiroad and the organization is seeking to minimize expenditures, which the decision was reached not to bring in Fatu.

“The hard part about a longer commitment is that Bushiroad’s wrestling division, even though Stardom has grown greatly, has overall taken a major financial hit because of New Japan’s declines related to the pandemic, even with New Japan World up. Because of that, the wrestling division is under pressure to keep spending down. An example is that they were told they could bring in Trinity Fatu, but it was felt it would cost too much for the return and thus far hadn’t made that deal,” Meltzer wrote.
