Jerry “the King” Lawler is one of the biggest wrestling names in pro wrestling history. Memphis wrestling was a hive of activity for years before WWE became the dominant power as it is now, when wrestling’s territories meant significance. Lawler was the area’s most despised heel at times and its most adored hero as wll.

For decades, Lawler and his many opponents produced fire that belittles the lukewarm reactions that some wrestlers produce now. It was the type of heat that had fans on the verge of rioting.

Even though his days in Memphis were AWESOME, we’d look back at his best WWE matchups.

Here’s a look back at some of Jerry “The King” Lawler’s most memorable WWE rivalries

The Miz

Jerry Lawler was largely retired as an in-ring talent in 2011, but he still had the credibility of a true veteran on the national scene and former world champion, as well as the logical angle that he had never gotten a shot at the WWE Championship and had a bone to pick with Miz, so why not challenge the young buck?

Lawler provided Miz with an appropriate transition opponent to beat clean and build the road for a larger clash between go The Miz and John Cena at WrestleMania 27.

Michael Cole

Toward the close of 2010, announcer Michael Cole began to display heel tendencies, which irritated co-host Jerry Lawler. Things got out of hand until their match at WrestleMania XXVII, and even then, the two commentators battled on the next two PPVs until their feud was declared over.

Bret Hart

After WWE Hall of Famer, Bret Hart won the inaugural (televised) Monarch Of The Ring tournament in 1993, he was attacked by Jerry Lawler, who claimed to be the true king of the WWF. This resulted in a lengthy feud between the two, which included a Kiss My Foot bout on WWF PPV and fights in the USWA. Even though Hart won but as he didn’t leave the strangled Lawler though the match was over with a sharpshooter, there was a reversal of the judgment in favor of Lawler making him The undisputed King.
