The fifth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League began its action yesterday. The Nations League is a yearly competition for international volleyball players. The tournament will take place from May 30 to July 16, 2023. The decisive round will be held in Arlington, Texas, in the United States, at College Park Centre. Four volleyball confederations’ top 16 nations will compete in the VNL). It is one of the leading international indoor competitions put on by the FIVB, the organisation that governs the sport. There were some minor changes post which the final roster for the tournament was made. The changes resulted from the 2022 Nations League and the 2022 Challenger Cup. Australia was replaced by debutants Cuba in this edition.

Tuesday will see Croatia and Canada at the loggerheads in round 3. The Canadian side sits in a mid-table position of tenth position. While on the other hand, the Croatian team is in the red zone of elimination based on their current standing. Croatia currently sits in the fourteenth position. Croatia and Canada last met in an International Friendly which took place before the FIVB Nations League. In the last encounter, the Canadians thrashed their opponents by 3-1. Canada has an edge over the Croatian side when it comes to head-to-head.

This time however a lot is at stake, especially for the Croatian side who will look to climb from their current standing. Croatia did not have the best of the campaigns that they would have liked. Nevertheless, it will enter the third round after a win against Thailand. On the other hand, the Canadians are coming after back-to-back defeats. Canada lost both its matches against Dominican Republic and Turkey. The Canadian team will look to start Round 3 positively. Round 3 starts on the 27th of June.
