The fifth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League began its action yesterday. The Nations League is a yearly competition for international volleyball players. The tournament will take place from May 30 to July 16, 2023. The decisive round will be held in Arlington, Texas, in the United States, at College Park Centre. Four volleyball confederations’ top 16 nations will compete in the VNL). It is one of the leading international indoor competitions put on by the FIVB, the organisation that governs the sport. There were some minor changes post which the final roster for the tournament was made. The changes resulted from the 2022 Nations League and the 2022 Challenger Cup. Australia was replaced by debutants Cuba in this edition.

Tuesday will see Germany and the Dominican Republic at the loggerheads in round 3. The German side sits in a mid-table position of eighth position. While on the other hand, the Dominican Republic team is in the lower half of the table in the eleventh position. Germany and Dominican Republic last met in the last year’s World Championships which took place after FIVB Nations League. In the last encounter, the Dominicans thrashed their opponents by 3-1.

This time however a lot is at stake, especially for the Dominican side who will look to climb from their current standing. The Dominican Republic did not have the best of the campaigns that they would have liked. It enters the third round after suffering a defeat at the hands of Turkey. On the other hand, the Germans won their last game against South Korea. This has given some semblance to the German campaign. Round 3 starts on the 27th of June.
