The 40-year-old Indian has reached the final of the men's singles table tennis event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Standing the test of time with a high degree of consistency is perhaps the greatest test any athlete has to go through. One of the few who have passed include veteran Indian paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal. The 40-year-old reached the final of the men’s singles table tennis event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. He beat English paddler Paul Drinkhall 4-2 in the semi-final. Set by set, the score was 11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8 in the Indian’s favour.
Sharath Kamal will face another Englishman in the final, Liam Pitchford. Pitchford beat Sathiyan Gnanasekaran in their semi-final by a comfortable 4-1 score-line. The Englishman looks to be in fine form and with the backing of the crowd in Birmingham, he can push Sharath Kamal to the limit.
Sharath Kamal will take on Liam Pitchford in the final of the men’s singles event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games on Monday, August 8. As per the official website, the match is scheduled to begin at 11:55 am BST (4:25 pm IST).
