Indian paddler Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has made it through to the semi-final of the men’s singles event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The Chennai-born athlete defeated home favourite Sam Walker 4-2. Gnanasekaran won the first three sets to build a healthy 3-0 lead but that was soon reduced to 3-2. The Indian, however, held his nerve to win a fourth set and the match. The set scores were 11-5, 11-7, 11-5, 8-11, 10-12 and 11-9 respectively. Gnanasekaran will face another Englishman in the form of Liam Pitchford in the semi-final for a spot in the last two. His compatriot, Sharath Kamal, will be in the other semi-final match and the two Indians could face off against one another in the men’s singles final on Monday.
Sathiyan Gnanasekaran will take on Liam Pitchford in the semi-final of the men’s singles event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games on Sunday, August 7. As per the official website, the match is scheduled to begin at 4 pm pm BST (8:30 pm IST).
