After bagging the gold medal in the men’s team event, the likes of Sharath Kamal, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Sanil Shetty will go into the singles rounds full of confidence but they will also have to bear the weight of expectations of fans back home. Sharath Kamal is the most experienced paddler India has at the Commonwealth Games this year and he will face Australia’s Finn Luu in the round of 32 of the men’s singles category. Sharath Kamal was the de facto leader and mentor of the men’s team that won the gold medal earlier in the competition.
The veteran paddler has already won a large number of medals for India over the years at the Commonwealth Games but he still has the hunger to go out and make the country proud. Things will not be easy but Sharath Kamal has proven time and again that age is but a number.
