Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula, both gold medalists in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, will lead the Indian table tennis squad at the WTT Contender Muscat 2022, which begins on Monday. The Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, Oman, will host the tournament from September 5 to 10. In India, live streaming of matches will be accessible. Sharath Kamal, who won three gold medals and one silver at the CWG 2022, has taken a hiatus, and world No. 37 Sathiyan Gnanasekaran will not compete at the WTT Contender Muscat 2022. Men’s singles qualifiers will be held for Harmeet Desai and former top-ranked junior player Manav Thakkar, while the duo has joined up in the main event for doubles.

Manika Batra, ranked 44th in the world, is India’s top player at the event and will face difficult opposition in the women’s singles. For the women’s doubles, she has teamed up with former junior world No. 2 Archana Kamath. Sreeja Akula, the national champion, will also try to advance far in the women’s singles tournament. Sreeja, who won gold in mixed doubles with Sharath Kamal at CWG 2022, will also play in the women’s doubles with Diya Chitale, a teenager. Sutirtha Mukherjee, a Tokyo Olympian, will compete in the qualifiers for a spot in the singles main draw.

WTT Contender Muscat 2022 date and schedule

The 2022 WTT Contender Muscat is scheduled to commence on September 5 and go on until September 10 as per the official ITTF website. The qualifying rounds will be held on September 5 and 6 and the main draw action will begin from September 7.
