Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic “feels very happy to have signed a contract extension” with the club. The Croatian footballers contract with the Nerazzuri was about to expire on June 30, so he was eligible to negotiate with other clubs for free transfer and his name was linked with several top clubs in Europe including Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur. However, the 29-year-old has put an end to all those rumors by putting pen to paper.

Brozovic’s new contract with Inter will keep him at the club until June 2026, earning a reported EUR 6.5 million per season plus bonuses. “I am truly very happy to have signed this contract extension with Inter, as I strongly wanted this and the club knew that,” Brozovic told Inter TV.

Talks have been ongoing on a new contract for Brozovic over the past several months and the club have confirmed that he has put pen to paper on a new deal.

Barcelona reportedly made multiple attempts to lure the 29-year-old Camp Nou while the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid were also reportedly interested in the defensive midfielder.

“I never wanted to even talk to another club, out of respect for Inter and its fans. I always told my agents that I didn’t want to speak to any other club, unless Inter said outright they didn’t want to renew my contract.”

Brozovic joined Inter Milan from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015. He has played 279 matches for the Italian club, scoring 26 goals and registering 35 assists. He was a pivotal part of the Inter team that won the Serie A title last season and he has made 70 appearances for the Croatian national team.

“It has always been an honour and a privilege for me to play with Inter. I always respected and loved this club, and that will be the case forever.

“We always play to win and I am certain we will give our all to win the Scudetto and Coppa Italia this season.

“The Inter fans have always cared for me. I can’t wait to get back on the pitch and resume celebrating with them.”

Inter are currently placed third in the points table, having dropped points in their last two games. The defending champions have 60 points from 29 games, six points adrift of the leaders AC Milan, but have a game in hand.
