Gosens joined Inter from Atalanta on a deal reportedly worth EUR 25 million until 2026. The 27-year-old had signed a four-and-a-half year contract in Milan and moved on loan with an obligation to buy.

The left-back’s arrival at San Siro was hampered by a hamstring injury, which he had sustained while at Atalanta and he is now slowly finding his feet at inter. Since recovering from the injury, the 27-year-old has made seven substitute appearances across all competitions and is fighting with Ivan Perisic for a place in the starting eleven.

Speaking to 11 Freunde, Gosens discussed his first impressions at Inter following the move from Atalanta.

“I’ve started all over again here, you have to prove you deserve your place. At Atalanta I was one of the players who had been there the longest and could do anything, here I’m new and at least at the beginning I’m being watched.”

He then touched on how things started to change once he changed his mindset and approach.

“The first few days were about confronting myself, I wanted to be what I am right away but I had the feeling that I had to hold back. Then, once I got in touch with the locker room, there is less distance between what I want to express and what I really bring out.”

Gosens has 115 minutes of playing time under his belt at Inter so far and is aiming to get back to his lethal best he once was. The German wing-back has been regarded as one of the best full-backs in Serie A over the last few seasons. Gosens, Achraf Hakimi and Theo Hernandez are the only defenders to have contributed to at least nine goals in the opening 21 Serie A games in the last 15 years.

Inter are on an impressive run of form, having won four consecutive games across all competitions and a fifth win against Roma will help them to the summit of the standings. Inzaghi’s side can be assured of retaining the Scurdetto if they don’t drop points in their remaining six league games.
