AC Milan won the 2021-22 Serie A title on Sunday after a 3-0 win over Sassuolo and Rafael Leao was one of the star performers at Magpie stadium. In fact the Portuguese international is one of the most influential players for Milan this campaign and he went on to be named the Serie A best player for the season. The 22-year-old winger is reportedly attracting interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid after their target Kylian Mbappe decided to remain at Paris Saint-Germain. The winger finished the season with impressive numbers of 11 goals and 8 assists in 33 Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri. He was Milan’s top scorer along with Olivier Giroud.

According to Marca, the outcome of the Mbappe saga leaves Madrid with EUR 200 million spare to go out and reinforce the squad with some targeted additions in multiple different positions. There are a number of names mentioned in the report as being of interest such as Aurelian Tchouameni of Monaco and Darwin Nunez of Benfica, but they also state that Leao has become the object of interest after his best season in a Milan shirt yet.

Leao scored 3 goals and provided 6 assists in last six Serie A games

Leao was in stunning form off late and played a pivotal role in his team’s title triumph. The 22-year-old registered six assists and scored three goals in his last six league games. Three of those assists came in the win against Sassuolo as he was instrumental in all three goals scored by Milan. Leao stole the ball from defender Kaan Ayhan on the half-way line and raced forward before setting up Giroud to  slot home from 10 yards inside the opening 17 minutes. The second goal arrived in the 32nd minute when Leao again showed some good footwork to get past defenders before cutting the ball back from the byline for Giroud to once again fire home from 10 yards.

Leao completes his hat-trick of assists against Sassuolo

The third came from the right flank, once again from a Leao assist as the Portuguese international ran on to Rade Krunic’s pass before pulling the ball back from the byline for Franck Kessie to sweep in with the inside of his left boot from eight yards. Veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic also made a cameo appearance off the bench and had the ball in the net from what would have been a fourth assist but this time the 22-year-old winger was offside.

Leao can be transformed into a centre-forward

Leao is definitely one for the future as he has all the attributes to be a top class winger. He is quick, skillful, strong and above all, has good temperament. The Portuguese footballer can also be transformed into a centre-forward in the future as he has good goal-scoring ability. He takes on defenders with his pace and quick footwork while also uses his tall figure to good effect. Leao stands 1.88m tall and is pretty good in the air. Widespread reports are claiming that Leao is currently in discussion with the Rossoneri management over the contract extension, but until that is signed and sealed there will be more market rumours like this.
