The inaugural champions had a pretty impressive performance at the auction ahead of the 2022 IPL.
When Rajasthan Royals (RR) emerged victorious in the first-ever edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) way back in 2008, it was not just a shock. It was a statement. The victory was symbolic of the fact that having a team full of global superstars was not the only way of winning the competition. Unfortunately for the Royals, they have not been able to repeat their success. As a matter of fact, they have not even managed to come close. Earlier this week, the 2008 IPL winning RR skipper Shane Warne passed away and it would a fitting tribute if the team from Jaipur displays a strong performance this season.

The inaugural champions had a pretty impressive performance at the auction ahead of the 2022 IPL. A number of big-name players were bought, both young and experienced. After a number of years, it finally seems like there is a sense of balance in the squad and this might just be the year when they shine their brightest.
Among the biggest names are the likes of New Zealand pacer Trent Boult and veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. RR really have seemed to have focussed on the bowling department with Yuzvendra Chahal also among one of their purchases. The spin attack of Ashwin and Chahal certainly sounds menacing on paper and it will be interesting to see how they work in tandem on the field.
In the batting department, the Royals have made a mighty good signing in Devdutt Padikkal. The former RCB batter is undoubtedly one of the brightest young stars in the game right now and he will surely be out to prove himself this season. Rassie van der Dussen, a highly skilled and experienced South African cricketer, is also in their ranks alongside Aussie all-rounders James Neesham and Nathan Coulter-Nile.
