Now that the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is over, it is time to assess and plan for the next season. Debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have truly surprised everyone this season. While GT went on to win the title itself, LSG made it to the playoffs. Some teams have disappointed with their performances. Chennai Super Kings (CSK), one of the most successful franchises in the IPL, had an underwhelming season. They ended up at the second-last spot at the end of the season.

CSK needs to plan well ahead of the next season to overcome the setbacks they faced in 2022. The team had captaincy problems at the beginning of the campaign as Ravindra Jadeja took over the reins from MS Dhoni. CSK’s other issue was with their bowling as the skipper’s job took a toll on Jadeja performance as a bowler as well. Other key players didn’t bring out their best performance, adding to Chennai’s woes. Later, Dhoni returned to the skipper role and made it clear that he will play for the Chennai side in 2023. The franchise can shuffle the team with an eye on making a strong comeback.

Tushar Deshpande

Tushar Deshpande was drafted in by CSK for the base price of INR 20 lakh. Following the injury to Deepak Chahar, Deshpande had the opportunity to make an impression. But he conceded 63 runs in seven overs and managed only one wicket. His time with CSK most likely won’t be extended.

Chris Jordan

Chris Jordan has a reputation for being a T20 specialist and was roped in by CSK for INR 3.60 crores. However, he couldn’t live up to his potential in IPL 2022. Jordan could only take 2 wickets in four matches at an unimpressive economy of 8.9. CSK could release him as they look to bolster their bowling in the next season.

Adam Milne

Adam Milne played for CSK in the first match against Kolkata Knight Riders. He suffered a hamstring injury, ruling him out for the rest of the season. He has encountered such injuries in the past and might not feature for the Chennai side in the next season.

Narayan Jagadeesan

Narayan Jagadeesan is yet to make a significant contribution for CSK. He was signed by CSK at the base price of INR 20 lakhs. Narayan played two matches and scored 40 runs at a below-par strike rate of 108.11. He could be one of the players heading out of CSK.

Robin Uthappa

Uthappa is a well-known figure in the IPL due to his performances for various sides over the years. He can score quickly, something the franchises are willing to pay big money for. The right-handed batter started the season well by scoring two half-centuries. However, at the end of the campaign, he could only manage 230 runs from 12 matches which is underwhelming by his standards. He could be one of the players the Chennai side is willing to let go.
