One thing that has been working for PBKS is the fact that they had an incredible auction this year.
Ever since losing in the final of the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Punjab Kings (PBKS) have been a side one does not really remember making it to the playoff stages in a consistent fashion. The franchise has seen more downs than ups in their time in the IPL. There have been internal issues at the club ahead of the auction this season as well when regular skipper KL Rahul refused to stay and moved to the newly formed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) instead. One thing that has been working for PBKS is the fact that they had an incredible auction this year. Big-name players who are capable of becoming sole match winners. 2022 could be the year PBKS finally makes an impact in the competition and with the team they have, it certainly should not come as a surprise. The franchise will play its first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the DY Patil Stadium on March 27.
The Kings really did splash the cash at the 2022 auction to get some of the biggest names in the competition today. The likes of South African pacer Kagiso Rabada and English batter Jonny Bairstow are only a couple of the superstars they have landed. Opener Liam Livingstone is also a highly valuable asset they have but perhaps the most important signing would be that of Shikhar Dhawan.
Dhawan is a veteran who has tons of experience playing domestic and international cricket. In recent history, the left-hander has been a crucial part of the Indian team. Dhawan has the skill, the experience, and the consistency to guide PBKS throughout the tournament and he will be looking to prove himself ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup.

The team will be led by Mayank Agarwal. A comparatively inexperienced captain, but certainly not an inexperienced cricketer. It will be interesting to see how the team moves forward under his leadership as they continue their quest for their maiden IPL triumph.
