The final over in the contest between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 on Friday turned into a controversy.

Delhi Capitals needed 36 runs off the final over with West Indies hard-hitting batter Rovman Powell on strike to face his national team compatriot and Rajasthan Royals rival Obed McCoy.

Powell made the most of his hard-hitting prowess as he smashed three back-to-back sixes to bring back Delhi Capitals in the game but the third ball saw the chasing side lose its tempo due to some high-intensity drama on the field.

McCoy tried to bowl a fuller length delivery in his third ball but missed out on a yorker as the full toss was dispatched by Powell for a maximum over deep mid-wicket.

However, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant, thought that it was waist-high no ball but the decision was ruled against his team’s favour by on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Nikhil Patwardhan which saw a drama erupt in the dugout.

Pant signalled Powell and the non-striker Kuldeep Yadav to come back to the dug out due to the decision made by the umpires and later sent Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre on the field to have a word with the umpires.

Meanwhile, Chahal and Kuldeep, were also seen breaking out into a friendly banter in the middle.

IPL 2022: TV Umpires not referred for the no-ball controversy

As the high-drama action unfolded, Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson who also thought it was a no-ball, was later seen talking to Pant and giving him some advice. It should be noted that the decision was not referred to the TV Umpire as the drama unfolded.

“Look, it was very disappointing what happened in that last over. We weren’t able to put things together for long enough throughout that game up until that point. In the end, the one that Delhi Capitals don’t stand for is what happened in the final over. The umpire’s decision, whether it’s right or wrong, we have to accept. Someone running onto the field. It’s not acceptable, we simply weren’t good enough,” Watson said at the press conference.

Powell, later, could only score two runs off the final three deliveries before getting out on the last ball as Rajasthan Royals sealed victory by 15 runs.
