After finishing a successful IPL campaign, veteran player Matthew Wade is all set to be busy with his national team as the Australian team is all set to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup with the hope of successfully defending their title. But he is yet to get over the recent IPL victory where Wade became the 16th Australian player to lift the IPL trophy after Gujarat Titans beat Rajasthan Royals in the final by seven wickets and clinched the title. However, after helping Australia in winning the T20 World Cup last year in November, the 34-year-old veteran player has said that securing the IPL title was the next best as well. “It’s a close to winning a World Cup as you can get,” Matthew Wade was quoted while talking on SEN Radio as per a report published by cricket.com.au. “It was a crazy atmosphere and something I’ll never forget – 104,000 people, I didn’t think I’d ever play in front of that many. (It was) a different kind of feeling to a World Cup where you’ve spent a few years trying to build a team to get there but this one has got all the glitz and glamour on it, and they do it differently over in India and they put on a show.”

Meanwhile, at the same time, the Gujarat Titans’ wicketkeeper-batter also admitted that he was disappointed with his own performance in the tournament. After playing 10 games, Matthew Wade managed to score 157 runs which came at an average of 15.70 and a strike rate of 113.77 as well. In the final game, the experienced player managed to score just eight runs off 10 balls. He had hit a maximum during his short stay in the middle.

However, earlier, batting first, the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals side smashed 130/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Gujarat captain Hardik Pandya picked up three wickets to restrict Rajasthan to a below-par total. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans, during the run chase lost the wicket of opening batter Wriddhiman Saha very quickly. But Shubman Gill stayed strong and eventually, Gujarat Titans successfully chased the target with 11 balls in hand as well.

“(I was) a little bit disappointed with my tournament but as a team we’ve played unbelievably well, we’ve had four or five guys that have really got going,” Matthew Wade concluded.
