The Nizams scored two of their three goals on the night from corner-kicks. Marquez was speaking to the media after the match and when asked about the victory, the Spanish tactician said: “It is true after ninety minutes that it is 3-1 for us but there is a second-leg. Ninety minutes more against one team that has very good players. If you look at the bench of ATK Mohun Bagan, you can be scared because there are a lot of good international players.
Ogbeche’s equaliser came in the stoppages of the first half from a set-piece. Yasir’s corner-kick fell to Joa Victor at the far post and the midfielder put the ball back into the danger zone for Ogbeche to head ghome.
Yasir then put the Nizams in front with a low strike from outside the box on 58 minutes before providing the assist for Siverio to head home six minutes later. Siverio broke away from his marker expertly before heading the ball nicely into the back of the net from Yasir’s corner kick.
“Now we have ninety minutes that we have to keep playing, not in the same way because, in the first half, we didn’t play a good game. But more or less in the second half, we played well. We were very clinical in set-pieces today.”
HFC has been having a phenomenal season, having become the first team to seal qualification for the semi-finals and finished second in the standings at the end of the league phase. Marquez’s side is one step closer to the final as they now have a healthy two-goal lead heading into the second leg on Wednesday.
Marquez added: “We are in a historical season for Hyderabad. We finished second in the regular season, let’s see what happens in the second leg but at least we won one game in the semi-final. Let’s see if we can qualify for the finals that would be an incredible success, not only for the team but for the fans, for the city. Hyderabad as a city needs one thing like this.”
