Valencia will host Rayo Vallecano in a La Liga fixture at Mestalla on Monday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in their last outing before the international break, while Rayo Vallecano played out a 2-2 draw against Girona. Valencia are currently languishing at the 19th spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected just 26 points from as many games, one point adrift of safety. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting at the eighth position, with 36 points to their name, eight shy of the top six.

Valencia are going through one of their worst ever La Liga seasons, having lost 14 league-games thus far, only the bottom side Elche have lost more games in the top flight this season. Meanwhile, Los Che have recorded only seven league-wins this term and their latest triumph came against Osasuna in the second week of March, courtesy of Justin Kluivert’s lone goal mid-way through the second half. It was Ruben Baraja’s side’s second consecutive victory on home turf. Valencia have done well in front of their own supporters as six of their seven top flight wins this season came at Mestalla. Los Che have collected 20 points from a possible 39 at home.

Rayo Vallecano, on the other hand, have taken 16 points from their 13 away games in the top flight this term. Andoni Iraola’ side are going through bit of a rough patch, having not tasted victory in their last six outings, while collecting just four points during that period. Last time out, the Red Stripes shared the spoils against Girona despite taking the lead twice through Isi Palazon and Oscar Trejo. Their last win came against Almeria at the start of February, thanks to Rodrigo Ely’s 54th-minute own goal and Alvaro Rivera’s 63rd-minute effort. It was their ninth top flight victory of the campaign. Meanwhile, Franjirrojos prevailed 2-1 in the reverse fixture in September last year, courtesy of Palazon’s fifth-minute effort and and own goal by Nico in the second half.
