Valencia, who were competing for Champions League football only a few years ago have spent the past four seasons dancing with the devil or in the mid-table. Los Che saw three managers in the last season, firstly relieving Gennaro Gattuso of his duties in January and handing Voro control of the reins for two weeks, before bringing in Ruben Baraja, who managed to keep the club afloat in the big time. Under Braja’s guidance, Valencia only suffered two defeats from their final nine league-games. Nevertheless, the Spanish outfit will be bidding start their pre-season on a positive note. After the game against Forest, Los Che will also play Spartak Trnava, St. Gallen, Alaves and Aston Villa before starting their 2023-24 La Liga season away to Sevilla on August 11.
Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, made a late dash to ensure survival, taking nine points from their final five league-games. After a break of almost seven weeks, the Tricky Trees returned to action on July 15, getting the better of Notts County courtesy of Hwang Ui-Jo’s lone goal early in the second half. Forest, had made more than ten signing last summer following their return to the top flight, while this summer, Chris Wood has been the only arrival. The New Zealand striker initially came to City Ground on a loan deal from Newcastle United in January and was then signed on a permanent basis last month. Meanwhile, the Reds will play the likes of Leeds United, PSV Eindhoven, Rennes and Eintracht Frankfurt before beginning their second consecutive Premier League season away to Arsenal on August 12.
