Swansea made a disappointing start to their 2023-24 campaign, taking just three points from their opening seven league games. But the Swans have managed to turn their fortunes, pocketing 15 points from their last seven outings. Although Michael Duff’s side returned to action following the international break with back-to-back defeats against the likes of Leicester City and Watford, the Swans bounced back with a 1-0 success over Blackburn last time out. Liam Cullen’s 28th-minute effort helped Swansea secure all three points at Ewood Park and it was their fifth second tier victory of the campaign. Meanwhile, at home it has been a mixed bag for the Swans, recording two wins, two draws and three defeats at Swansea.com Stadium so far.
Sunderland, on the other hand, began their new season with back-to-back league defeats against Ipswich Town and Preston North End, but quickly bounced back, taking 19 points from their next eight matches. Meanwhile Tom Mowbray’s side recently went on a three-game losing run, and they have now suffered six defeats from 14 league games. However, the Black Cats secured their seventh second tier success of the season against Norwich last time out thanks to one goal each from Trai Hume, Dan Neil and Jack Clarke. It was a dominant performance from Sunderland at Stadium of Light as they had more than 60% ball possession and attempted 17 shots with nine of them on target compared to just two efforts on target by the Canaries.
