Although Swansea failed to qualify for the Championship playoffs having finished three points adrift of the top six, they played an entertaining brand of football under Russell Martin last season. The 37-year-old tactician left the Welsh club and joined Southmpton this summer, paving way for the appointment of Michael Duff as the club’s new boss. The Jacks will be bidding to claim a top six finish this time around and they have started the 2023-24 second tier season with a draw against Birmingham at the weekend. Duff’s side fought back from a goal-down to share the spoils thanks to Jerry Yates’ 76th-minute effort.
Northampton, on the other hand, secured promotion from League Two last season, finishing third in the standings, picking up 83 points from 46 games. The Cobblers had a mixed pre-season this summer, recording two wins, as many defeats and a draw from five friendlies. Nevertheless, Jon Brady’s side lost out to Stevenage in their League One opener on Saturday, with Carl Piergianni’s lone goal ten minutes from time separating the two side at Sixfields Stadium. Meanwhile, Town have managed to boost their squad with the arrivals of five new players this summer, with Emmanuel Monthe and Patrick Brough joining the club on free transfers, while Marc Leonard, Tyreece Simpson and Kieron Bowie has arrived on loan.
