Sudan will play host to DR Congo in an AFCON Qualifier group stage match at Al-Hilal stadium on Wednesday. Both sides lost their opening games. Sudan suffered a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Mauritania while DR Congo were beaten 1-0 by Gabon. This will be the seventh ever meeting between the two sides. DR Congo has a good record against Sudan, winning five of the previous six encounters between the two sides.

Sudan are winless in their last 16 games across all competitions and will be desperate to end this poor run of form and get their qualification campaign up and running. In their previous outing against Mauritania, former Fulham striker Aboubakar Aboubakar Kamara scored a double before Abdallahi Mahmoud netted once to thrash the Secretary Birds. It was Sudan’s 10th loss in their last 16 games, and their last win came way back in June, 2021 against Libya. On the positive note, Burhan Tia’s men have won each of their three AFCON qualifying games on home turf, scoring seven goals and keeping three clean sheets. Therefore Sudan will fancy their chances of ending the winless run when they head home for Wednesday’s fixture.
Congo DR, on the other hand, suffered a narrow defeat against Gabon on Saturday. Shavy Warren Babick scored the lone goal of the match to secure three points for the Panthers. The Leopards have now failed to win any of their last four outings, losing three and managing one draw since picking up consecutive wins over Tanzania and Benin in the World Cup qualifiers back in November 2021. Meanwhile Hector Cuper’s side have struggled to get going away from home, winless in all but one of their last seven games across all competitions.

Sudan has injury issues as forward Siddig Gahdia came off injured in the previous game and is doubtful for the upcoming fixture. In his absence, 23-year-old Waleed Hamid could come into the starting XI.
As for Congo DR, head coach Cuper is unlikely to make too many changes to the side that lost on the opening day. Nathan Idumba Fasika and Marcel Tisserand are expected to continue at the heart of the defence. Meanwhile Nates man Samuel Moutoussamy should retain his place in the midfield
