Stoke City will host Sunderland in an EFL championship fixture at the Britannia stadium on Saturday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough last Wednesday, while Sunderland suffered a 2-1 defeat at Sheffield United on the same day. Stoke City are currently occupying the 18th spot in the standings with four points from as many games, while the visitors are sitting six places above them with five points. Both sides have managed to register just one league win this term

Stoke City began their season with a 2-0 loss to Millwall on July 30 before defeating Blackpool with an identical scoreline a week later. And then, the Potters got eliminated from the EFL Cup courtesy of losing 5-3 on penalties before losing 3-1 away to Huddersfield in a league fixture. In their recent outing against Middlesbrough, Jacob Brown gave an early lead to the Potters, before the visitors equalised through Duncan Whatmore. Although Phil Jagielka’s own goal helped the Boro restore the lead, Wright Phillips’ last-ditch equaliser helped the Potters share the points.
