The visitors are currently occupying third spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 12 points from five games, just a solitary point adrift of the summit. The Saints, meanwhile, are sitting at the seventh position, with ten points to their name.

Southampton made a strong start to their 2023-24 Championship campaign, taking ten points from their opening four games, recording three wins and a draw in the process. However, the Saints suffered their first second tier defeat of the campaign against Sunderland last time out courtesy of Pierre Ekwah’s brace and one goal each from Jack Clarke, Bradley Dack and Chris Rigg. With seven goals conceded from their last four outings, head coach Russell Martin would be worried about his team’s defence. On a positive note, the South coast outfit are trailing the league-leaders Preston North End by just three points and a victory on Friday will take them to second spot.
Leicester, on the other hand, haven’t lived up to their expectation as the pre-tournament favourites, but the Foxes have somehow managed to squeeze out the results, recording four wins and one defeat from five league-games so far. The Foxes suffered their first defeat of the campaign against Hull last time out courtesy of Liam Delap’s lone goal inside the opening 15 minutes. It was a disappointing performance from Enzo Maresca’s side at King Power stadium, attempting just a solitary shot on target in the entire 90 minutes of play. The result was a remainder that the Foxes cannot assume that they will earn a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking without matching their quality with consistency.
