Coventry City will be aiming to put pressure of sixth-placed Norwich City when they travel to St. Mary’s Stadium to take on Southampton in an EFL Championship fixture on Tuesday night. The visitors are currently occupying seventh spot, just outside the playoffs, in the English second tier standings, having collected 63 points from 40 games, four adrift of the Canaries who have played a game more. The Saints, on the other hand, are sitting at the fourth position, with 75 points to their name from 39 league matches, 12 adrift of second-placed Ipswich Town but with two games in hand.

Southampton have recorded 22 wins, nine draws and eight defeats from 39 Championship games so far. Their last victory came against Sunderland (4-2) earlier in March thanks to first-half efforts from Stuart Armstrong and Adam Armstrong and Joe Rothwell’s second-half brace. But after that, the Saints went on a three-game winless run, sharing the points with Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers, either side of a 3-2 defeat away to Ipswich. On Saturday, Russell Martin’s side failed the find the back of the net versus the Riversiders at Ewood Park despite having close to 70% ball possession. Moreover, Southampton’s home form has deteriorated in the last couple of months, collecting just four from points a possible 12 in front of their own supporters.
Coventry, on the other hand, saw their four-game winning run across all competitions come to an end with a 2-1 Championship-defeat versus Cardiff City earlier this month. But the Sky Blues quickly bounced back with a 2-1 victory over automatic-promotion-chasers Leeds United at the weekend, thanks to one effort each from Ellis Simms and Haji Wright. Moreover, Coventry’s away-form off late has been great, recording four wins and a defeat from their last five matches on the road in all competitions. Meanwhile, the Sky Blues have not registered a single victory versus Southampton in their last five encounters and are looking to avoid third-straight defeat at St Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday.
