South Korea vs Ghana: Talking points as Mohammed Kudus’ double gives Ghana victory in World Cup thriller

Ghana resurrected their qualifying hopes for the second time with a thrilling Group H victory over South Korea.

Ghana’s 3-2 win over South Korea places them second in Group H, while South Korea sit bottom. South Korea faced Ghana in Group H action on Matchday 2 at the Education City Stadium. South Korea entered the game following a 0-0 tie with Uruguay. Conversely, Ghana entered the competition after a 3-2 loss to Ronaldo’s Portugal. In the first half, Mohammed Salisu and Mohammed Kudus scored to give Ghana a 2-0 lead, only to be equalised by Cho to make it 2-2. Kudus scored his brace in the 69th minute to give Ghana all three points.

Mohammed Kudus – A Star Is Born

Mohammed Kudus had the match of his life as the Kudus magic gave Ghana all three points. Jordan Ayew whipped a cross to the far post as the Ajax striker, Mohammed Kudus, glanced the ball past the South Korean Goalkeeper to give Ghana the lead. Kudus once again showed his magic as his got back Ghana the lead in the 68th minute when the score was 2-2 to make it 3-2 and give all three points for Ghana. 

South Korea show grit and character

South Korea were in trouble after falling behind 2-0 to Ghana in the first 35 minutes. But Paulo Bento’s men did not give up and stepped up their game, scoring two goals in less than four minutes to tie the game at 2-2. Gue-Sung Cho of Jeobuk FC had a fantastic game, scoring a brace, taking six shots, and being fouled three times. The two goals were assisted by Jin-Su Kim and Kang-In Lee, but South Korea went on to lose the game after Mohammed Kudus’ second goal.

South Korea on the verge of elimination

South Korea faced Uruguay in their World Cup opener at the Education City Stadium, dropped two points, and were desperate for a win against Ghana in Al-Rayyan.  They fought back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game at 2-2, but Ghana secured all three points thanks to Mohammed Kudus’ second goal of the evening. With only one point in two games and a game against Portugal on Friday, December 2, things could get out of hand if they don’t pull off a miracle.
