The Blades are currently occupying second spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 82 points from 42 games, four points clear of third-placed Luton Town, who have played two games more.
Sheffield United will host West Bromwich Albion in an EFL Championship fixture at Bramall Lane on Wednesday night knowing that a win will seal their automatic qualification to the Premier League. The Blades are currently occupying second spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 82 points from 42 games, four points clear of third-placed Luton Town who have played two games more. The visitors, meanwhile, have played a game more than Paul Heckingbottom’s side and are sitting at the ninth position, with 63 points to their name, just two adrift of the top six but with a game in hand. Sheffield United are heading into the match on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA cup semi-final clash on Saturday, while the Baggies suffered a 2-1 league-defeat against Sunderland.

Sheffield United’s impressive FA Cup run came to an end against the reigning Premier League champions this weekend courtesy of Riyad Mahrez’s hat-trick. Prior to that, the Blades secured their 25th league-win of the season against Bristol City on April 18 thanks to James McAtee’s lone goal in the second-half. Heckingbottom’s side have won seven of their last ten Championship matches and as a result of the good run, the Blades have a chance to seal their return to the top flight of English football regardless of the result between Luton and fourth-placed Middlesbrough. Sheffield United have won each of their last four matches at Bramall Lane and the Blades defeated West Brom 2-0 in the reverse fixture in February.
West Brom, on the other hand, won back-to-back away-games against Stoke City and Blackpool before losing out to Sunderland in front of their own supporters this weekend. The Baggies lost out to the Black Cats on Saturday despite taking the lead through John Swift’s effort on the stroke of half-time. With three games remaining, Carlos Coberan’s side are still very much alive in the playoff race. A two goal win on Wednesday will move West Midlands outfit into the fifth position, but another defeat would leave them realistically needing to beat both Norwich city and Swansea City.
