Manchester City registered a late win away to Sheffield United to maintain their perfect start to the new Premier League season intact. The intense game at Bramall Lane had everything from goals to inspired saves, penalty miss and a late screamer. City could have opened the scoring in the first half, however, Erling Haaland had missed from the penalty spot. He overcame the disappointment to open the scoring around the hour mark with a powerful header.

With only five minutes remaining, Jayden Bogle equalised for Sheffield United. However, Rodrigo’s late stunner sealed the 2-1 win for the defending Premier League champions. The Spaniard, known for his distribution and defensive excellence, has also been scoring important goals for his side lately. However, he gave the credit to the whole team for going till the end. “Yeah, we worked a lot today. It’s one of the games where you have to be patient until the end because they’re very narrow,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website after the match.

Rodrigo on the late win

He added: “Great credit to them. They defended so good today. In the end, we had the first chance with the penalty and unfortunately we missed. But we kept trying and trying till the end. Erling [Haaland] needed one, two, three chances but he is a goalscorer and he scored for us. The mistake for the goal cannot happen again. The mentality of the game didn’t drop, we kept going and at the end I got the goal so I am very happy.”

The Manchester City holding midfielder was happy with the three points despite his team not creating many chances. “Sometimes football is like this. You try for 90 minutes, score one goal and one mistake gives you a draw. But this is football. We know the level of this league. You cannot drop or make mistakes in these situations. There’s no regrets for the team, we played good football today. We know it is a game of not many chances but at the end we won,” he explained.

Ruben Dias hails Bernardo Silva’s versatility

Manchester City centre-back Ruben Dias was all praise for their star midfielder Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese midfielder had recently signed a new one-year contract extension. Now, his club and national teammate Dias spoke highly about his versatility. “I consider him [Bernardo] to be a person who has a very good understanding of football and his own game. But with Bernardo I think this is taken to a new level, due to his ability to play in any position on the pitch, and to be able to know exactly what to do,” he was quoted by the club’s website.

He added: “I think that this is related to how he is able to understand the game, to have total confidence in completely different positions. There were moments last season where he went from right wing to left back. I think this is an ability that very few people have in the world of football. I am impressed by this as anyone, so I think to have that ‘super intelligence’ of the game would be no bad thing.”
