Sevilla will host Juventus in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final tie at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Thursday. The first leg at Allianz Stadium last week ended in a 1-1 draw. Sevilla went ahead through Youssef En Nesyri’s 26th-minute effort, but let their lead slip right at the death courtesy of Federico Gatti’s 97th-minute tap-in. Meanwhile, both sides are heading into the match on the back of victories in their respective league-outings last weekend, with the hosts getting the better of Real Valladolid 3-0 in the La Liga, while Juventus secured a 2-0 Serie A-win over Cremonese.

Sevilla put three goals past Valladolid thanks to second half efforts from Rafa Mir, Papu Gomez and Jesus Manuel Corona. It was their 13th league-win of the season and Los Rojiblancos are now occupying 10th spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 47 points from 34 games, just a solitary point behind the top seven. Despite struggling in the relegation zone during the first half of the season, Los Rojiblancos have managed to turn their fortunes under their third manager of the season, Jose Luis Mendilibar. Meanwhile, when it comes to the Europa League, the six-time winners defeated Manchester United 5-2 on aggregate in the quarter-final stage. The La Liga top four is out of reach and Sevilla’s only way to secure a place in the group stage of 2023-24 Champions League is via the Europa League triumph. The Andalucians have won 24 of their last 27 Europa League games and are definitely strong favourites to progress to the final where they will meet either Roma or Bayer Leverkusen.

Juventus, on the other hand, are no easy opponents as the Italian outfit are aiming to secure their only silverware this season. Bianconeri defeated Sporting Lisbon 2-1 on aggregate in the previous round and are bidding to reach their first European final since 2017, when they were ultimately beaten by Barcelona in the Champions League title-decider during Massimiliano Allegri’s first spell in charge. Meanwhile, when it comes to the Serie A, the Old Lady are currently occupying second spot in the table, with 69 points to their name from 35 games, 14 adrift of champions Napoli. Juve secured their 21st league-win of the season against Cremonese last time out thanks to two unanswered goals from Nicolo Fagioli and Gleison Bremer. The result extended their unbeaten run to five games across all competitions.
