Atletico Madrid will be looking to get back to winning ways when they make the trip to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to take on Sevilla in a La Liga fixture on Sunday. Los Colchoneros are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final tie in the mid-week, while the hosts secured a 2-1 league-win away to Rayo Vallecano on Monday. The visitors are currently occupying fourth spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 48 points from 23 games, ten adrift of leaders Real Madrid and three clear of fifth-placed Athletic Club. The Red and Whites, meanwhile, are languishing at the 15th position, with 20 points to their name from 23 top flight matches, just three away from the relegation zone.

🌟 Isaac and En-Nesyri partnership— Sevilla FC (@SevillaFC_ENG) February 9, 2024
Sevilla secured all three points against Rayo Vallecano last time out thanks to Youssef En-Nesyri’s brace in the Spanish capital. It was the Red and Whites’ first league win since the middle of December and just their fourth top flight success this season. Meanwhile, Los Nervionenses are winless in their last ten home-games in all competitions, losing five matches in the process. Quique Sanchez Flores’ men have some tough fixtures coming up, facing Atletico, Valencia, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad in their next four.
Atleti, meanwhile, saw their five game winning run across all competitions come to an end away to Real Madrid (1-1) on February 4. Diego Simeone’s side fought back from a goal down to earn a point at Santiago Bernabeu thanks to Marcos Llorente’s equaliser three minutes into the injury time. But three days later, Los Colchoneros were beaten at home by Athletic Club in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final fixture, courtesy of Alejandro Berenguer Remiro’s lone goal from the penalty spot in the 25th minute. Simeone’s men have another two league games before heading to Inter Milan for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 encounter on February 20.
