Fenerbahce will play host to Olympiacos in the second leg of their Europa Conference League quarter-final tie at Sukru Saracoglu on Thursday. The visitors secured a thrilling 3-2 win in the first-leg in Greece thanks to one effort each from Kostas Fortunis, Stevan Jovetic and Chiquinho. Although the Turkish club fought back to reduce the deficit through Dusan Tadic’s 68th-minute penalty and Irfan Kahveci’s effort 16 minutes from time, the Red-Whites held on to the slender lead.

Fenerbahce have now lost four of their last six European fixtures this season, yet they are potentially a home-win away from facing either Aston Villa or Lille in the last four stage of the Conference League. Three days after their away-leg defeat to Olympiacos, Yellow Canaries visited Ataturk Olympic Stadium for a Turkish Super Lig fixture and won 2-1. Fenerbahce are currently occupying second spot in the Turkish top flight standings, having collected 85 points from 32 games, just two adrift of leaders Galatasaray, against whom Kartal’s side lost 3-0 earlier this month.
Olympiacos, on the other hand, had the weekend off from domestic action. The Red-Whites haven’t been great in the Greek top flight this term, as they are sitting six points adrift the leaders in fourth position, albeit with a game in hand. Meanwhile, when it comes to Europe, Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side dropped into Conference League on the back of finishing third behind West Ham United and Freiburg in the Europa League group. But the Legend have been impressive in the third tier of Europe, recording four wins and a defeat from five fixtures so far. Moreover, Olympiacos have been brilliant on the road, winning five of their last six away-game across all competitions.
