Napoli maintained their perfect start to the Serie A campaign as they beat Cagliari 2-0 at Diego Armando Stadium on Sunday. Victor Osimhen scored a goal and then earned a penalty for Lorenzo Insigne to convert as Napoli go top of the league table with six wins from as many games. It was yet another complete performance for  Luciano Spalletti’s side as they didn’t allow the opposition to get into the game and controlled the game with ease. Elsewhere, Lazio beat Roma 3-2 at Stadio Olimpico courtesy of goals from Sargej Milinkovic-Savic, Pedro and Felipe Anderson.

Napoli broke the deadlock early as they took the lead within 11 minutes of kick-off. Piotr Zielinski ran onto a ball over the top, pulled back for Osimhen to score from six yards. It was the 22-year-old’s fourth league goal of the season. The Nigerian then flashed a shot wide from a breakaway move.

After the break, Osimhen did well to hold off Diego Godin on the half-way mark before turning and surging forward, but his shot from outside the box was comfortably saved by the goalkeeper.

Former Atletico Madrid defender Godin was having a tough time against Osimhen. Once again, the Napoli striker was too strong for Godin to handle and the central defender brought him down inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Insigne stepped up and converted the spot-kick to extend the lead, three minutes from the hour-mark.

Napoli continued to attack as Zielinski’s attempt after some excellent team work went wide. Midfielder André Zambo Anguissa who had an excellent game for Napoli drove his shot wide from outside the box.

Roma, Lazio play out Serie A thriller

In the other match of the day, Roma boss Jose Jose Mourinho suffered his second defeat of the season. Meanwhile Lazio ended a four-match winless run. It was a thrilling encounter as Maurizio Sarri’s side moved to the top six in Serie A.

Savic scored within 10 minutes of kick-off. Anderson’s diagonal cross from the right side was slotted in by Savic’s brave header. The Serbian crashed into the goalkeeper and injured himself.

The home side extended the lead in the 19th minute from a breakaway move. Pedro gave the ball to Immobile and surged forward to get on the end of the return before slotting the ball past Rui Patrício and into the Roma goal.

Four minutes from break, the away side pulled one back to Ibanez. Jordan Veretout’s corner-kick from the left flank was headed in by the Brazilian central defender. In the 62nd minute Lazio restored the two goal lead. Immobile was released down the middle with a brilliant through ball. The Italian showed great pace and control to chase it down and pull the ball back for Anderson to fire in.

Roma again reduced the deficit as Nicolò Zaniolo earned a penalty and Veretout converted from the spot. It was an end-to-end action as Zaniolo forced a brilliant save from Lazio custodian Pepe Reina before Immobile tested Patricio at the other end.

After the defeat, Roma are placed fourth in the table with 12 points from six games.
