Sao Paulo will be keen to enact revenge on Palmeiras after losing to them on Monday in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A clash when the two sides face each other in the Copa do Brasil round-of-16 match. On the back of playing each other in a tense clash on Monday, the two sides will come again on Thursday for the first leg of the last-16 encounter at Estadio Cicero Pompeu de Toledo. Thursday’s hosts will be eager to bounce back from losing their last match to the same opposition in a heartbreaking fashion. They need to put their recent inconsistencies in the league behind them and mount a winning streak that will help them go deep in the competition. In the five matches they played in June, Sao Paulo won only once but lost twice and drew twice as well. They had overcome Juventude 4-2 on aggregate in the last round of this competition.

On the other hand, Palmeiras are leading the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A table and are enjoying a fine run of form domestically. With 28 points from 13 games, they are sitting three points ahead of Corinthians in the league. In the five matches they have played in June, Palmeiras won four and drew the other. They will be hoping to do a double over Sao Paulo after beating them only a couple of days ago in Serie A.
Both teams have to make do with the absence of some of their players due to injuries for the upcoming match. The home side will miss the services of injured Nikao, Alisson and Gabriel Sara. Besides, Sao Paulo will also likely miss Luan and Andres Colorado due to thigh problems. On the other hand, Palmeiras will most likely be without Marcos Rocha, Jorge and Veiga. Not to mention that Jailson will miss the rest of the campaign owing to an ACL injury.

The Copa do Brasil encounter between Sao Paulo and Palmeiras will take place at Estadio Cicero Pompeu de Toledo and it will kickoff at 4:30 am IST on June 24, Friday.
