The report states that the 28-year-old received offers from three European clubs while ATKMB has offered him a contract extension.
According to a report by footballexpress, ATK Mohun Bagan defender Sandesh Jhingan, who had an unsuccessful short stint with Croatian club HNK Sibenik is once again reportedly pursuing a European dream. The report states that the 28-year-old received offers from three European clubs while ATKMB has offered him a contract extension. Considering the fact that he didn’t have a great time with HNK Sibenik last season, the defender will be extra cautious in taking the decision this time. However, Jhinghan is the kind of person who is not afraid to take risks, is willing to get out of his comfort zone and wants to test himself.

Jhingan’s contract with ATK Mohun Bagan extends till 2025 and the Mariners would want to keep him at the club. But the Kolkata side, as per the clause in the contract, will not come in his way if he plans to make a foreign move. The India international joined the Mariners in 2020 after a six-year stint with Kerala Blasters FC. The deal was worth Rs 10 crore, making him the best paid Indian footballer at that point. But in 2021, Jhingan moved to Croatian top tier club HNK Sibeni. Two days after landing in the country, he was injured and barely after four months the defender drew curtains on his European dreams.

Jhingan started his youth career at St. Stephen’s Football Academy in Chandigarh. This was followed by a debut in the top division with United Sikkim in 2011. The defender was adjudged as the ‘Emerging player of the league’ in the 2014 edition of ISL. After that, he soon cemented his place in the national team. Jhingan is arguably India’s best central defender. He made his national team debut in 2015 and has won 36 international caps, scoring four times. He is known for his tough, no-nonsense and courageous defending.
Jhingan played two of the three games for ATKMB in the recently concluded group stage of AFC Cup. He played a crucial role in helping his side top the group and qualify for the inter-zonal playoffs. The former Kerala Blasters player’s solid performance in the 5-2 win over Maziya FC in the final group fixture earned him lots of applause. Meanwhile central defender Tiri sustained an ACL injury during the AFC Cup campaign and will be sidelined for 7-8 weeks. Therefore Jhiangan will be expected to marshall the ATKMB defence in the absence of Tiri in the upcoming fixtures.
